Lewisham Medical Centre wins a borough award for learning disability checks

In January 2026, GP teams from across Lewisham gathered at the Rivoli Ballroom in Brockley for the third Lewisham General Practice Excellence Awards, run by the Lewisham CEPN Training Hub.
We were proud that our Lewisham Medical Centre team won the borough award for completing the highest proportion of learning disability health checks, at 95 percent.
An annual learning disability health check helps people with a learning disability stay well, and picks up problems that might otherwise be missed. Reaching 95 percent is not easy. It takes patient, persistent work to invite people, make appointments feel comfortable, and follow up with those who are harder to reach. That is exactly the kind of steady, often unseen care worth celebrating.
Colleagues from across the group were also nominated on the night: Nightingale Surgery for GP Practice of the Year, Dr Rachel Haddon for GP of the Year, Urszula Kiermasz at Kingfisher Medical Centre for Practice Nurse of the Year, and Dr Sarah Hawxwell for the Inspiring Leader Award.
