Care that feels close, since 2006.

We are one of London’s largest independent NHS GP groups, but the aim is simple: care that feels close. Here is how we started, what we believe, and how we work.

Our impact

The difference it makes.

We measure ourselves on what changes for patients. Here is some of the difference our way of working makes.

Faster answers when you call

Average wait for us to answer your call has fallen from 14 minutes to around 3 minutes.

Seen by the right person, sooner

55%wider team

More than half of appointments are now with our wider clinical team, not only GPs, so you are seen faster by the right person.

Better care for long-term conditions

By reaching the patients who are hardest to contact, completed diabetes care reviews rose from under a third to over two thirds in a few months.

Our story

From one surgery to a connected group.

Penrose began in 2006 as a single family-founded surgery in Walworth, started by Sunil Gupta and Dr Sarah Hawxwell. Today we care for more than 75,000 patients across eight practices in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, every one rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

How we work

Built around the patient, supported behind the scenes.

Integrated clinical teams

Over half of appointments are with our wider team of nurses, pharmacists, paramedics and more, so you are seen sooner, by the right person.

One central support hub

Our London Bridge team answers calls and online requests for every practice, cutting the average call wait from 14 minutes to about three.

Technology that frees up care

Our practice-founded healthtech automates recalls and admin, so clinicians spend more time with patients and fewer fall through the cracks.

More time with your GP

Our GPs offer 15-minute appointments as standard, longer than the usual 10, so there is time to listen and treat the whole person.

What we believe

The things we won’t compromise on.

Care that feels close

Private-clinic warmth, delivered as NHS care for everyone.

Continuity

Knowing our patients over time. It is safer and it matters.

Equity

Care that works for dense, diverse, high-need communities.

Stewardship

Building something that lasts, not chasing the quick win.

Leadership

The people behind Penrose.
